Methanol is an organic compound and the simplest saturated monohydric alcohol. It is a colorless, transparent, flammable, volatile toxic liquid. Methanol is non-corrosive to metals at room temperature (except lead and aluminum) and has a slight alcohol smell. Its melting point is -97.8℃, boiling point is 64.5℃, flash point is 12.22℃, autoignition point is 463.89℃, vapor density is 1.11, vapor pressure is 13.33KPa (100mmHg21.2℃), and it is miscible with water, ethanol, ether, benzene, ketone, halogenated hydrocarbons and many other organic solvents. It is usually used as a solvent, fuel or neutralizer.
